I have used many popular vocabulary learning apps, which made me feel satisfied because I memorized all the words one by one and had a sense of fulfillment. However, I later discovered several serious problems:
- The first problem is that I quickly forget the words I memorized, even with the help of the Ebbinghaus method.
- Another problem is that when I actually need to use the newly learned words, I can't effectively incorporate them into the context.
Therefore, I developed the "Linggua Vocabulary" app, which uses the latest artificial intelligence technology to integrate the words to be memorized into an interesting serialized story. I only need to read the story to complete the word memorization.
This method repeatedly stimulates me in a real context, making my memory very profound. I not only remember the meanings of the words but also the plot of the story. I can even retell the sentences using the words.
Tutorial
Step 1: Choose a vocabulary book and set a plan
The vocabulary books are comprehensive, ranging from elementary school to professional English, graduate entrance exams, CET-4 and CET-6, IELTS, TOEFL, New Concept, and so on.
Setting a plan is mainly about setting a target and then planning accordingly, so that you can have an estimate of your daily learning volume, which helps control the pace of learning.
Step 2: Generate a story
On the "Story" page, click on the top right corner to create a new story.
Then, choose a story template that interests you from the pop-up sheet.
Finally, click on "Generate Story" and wait for about 10 seconds. The app will generate a new story and its first chapter for you.
The app will generate the story plot based on the needs of the story and the "words to be learned". In other words, it seamlessly integrates your "words to be learned" into the story content. Of course, the plot of the story may be influenced by the "words to be learned".
After entering a specific story from the story list, you will see a chapter list. Each chapter is controlled to be around 200 words and will include as many new words and review words as possible based on your settings.
Click on "Continue Writing the Story" in the top right corner to generate the latest chapter of the story.
Step 3: Read the story
Click on a chapter in the chapter list to enter the story reading interface. Then, you can happily read the interesting story.
Note:
- During the reading process, you can quickly look up the definition and pronunciation of any word by clicking on it. If you feel that the definition is not detailed enough, you can also click on the dictionary icon on the right to open the system dictionary for further queries.
- Click on the play button at the bottom to play the audio reading of the entire text. You can follow the audio and read along. It is recommended to read it out loud, as this stimulates your brain through sound and improves the effectiveness of word memorization.
- After finishing reading, remember to click the "Finished Reading" button to let "Linggua" know that you have finished reading. "Linggua" will record your reading behavior and update the "familiarity" of each new word.
About "Familiarity"
Each word has a "familiarity" level for you, which is updated based on your reading and memorization behavior.
- Reading a chapter once will increase the familiarity of the words in the article.
- Looking up a word once will decrease the familiarity of that word.
- If you feel that the "familiarity" of a word is inaccurate, you can manually mark it as "forgot," "vague," or "mastered."
"Linggua" has an algorithm that automatically incorporates the familiarity of all words into the content of the chapters you generate later, thereby achieving repetition and review effects. So remember to click the "Finished Reading" button after reading each article.
